When she designed a shirt for fun at a fashion show in 2006, Jodi Oehlke, founder of Sakrid Clothing, never imagined she would have her duds on the likes of Brangelina, NASCAR’s Jeff Gordon and the President of the United States in just two years. But after overnight selling success at a local boutique, Sakrid quickly flourished into something more than just a fun pastime. “I love, love, love what I do,” says Jodi of her growing fashion line. “The fabric is probably my favorite part of it all; the materials truly feel like that old t-shirt that you’ve worn for years but with some added sass.” And by sass, she means unique materials such as Swarovski crystals and whimsical post-break-up messages like “Back on the Market.” Sakrid’s fun, distinctive look has caught on with everyone from country music superstar Craig Morgan to the New Orleans Saints. This project hits close to home for photographer Dani Brubaker, her biological mother had given birth to her in the hospital, panicked and left Dani at the hospital. Dani was then moved into a home for kids without parents. She was in many foster care homes before being adopted by one of her foster parents.
